ABOUT

Keenan Educational Consulting, LLC

Elizabeth Keenan (she/her) is an experienced teacher, tutor, education consultant and professional learning provider. She holds a Special Educator (K-age 21) teaching endorsement in Vermont, and is certified at the Associate level from the Orton-Gillingham Academy. Since founding Keenan Educational Consulting in 2006, Elizabeth has worked with dozens of schools and hundreds of students.

Elizabeth's professional mission is to support student success and well-being through deepening school administrators', teachers', and families' understanding of learning differences and the science of reading. She works with public and independent schools in various ways, including
reviewing current students' educational neuropsych reports and writing accessible one-page summaries for teacher reference; providing professional learning for groups of teachers (e.g. interactive workshops, presentations) and consultation with individual teachers and administrators to determine the needs of a particular student, to look at a classroom's benchmark data, and/or to be a thought partner when approaching a problem of practice.

Elizabeth can also work with students directly to complete academic assessments to determine their present skill levels and, when appropriate, diagnostic assessments to determine the direction and focus needed for intervention. In the past, she has provided individualized and intensive literacy interventions using an Orton-Gillingham approach, to students in early elementary through high school, though she is not currently taking on new students.

Prior to moving to Vermont in 2017, Elizabeth was the Director of the Learning Center and as a study skills and English teacher at a college preparatory school; as an English and US History teacher at a residential treatment center for adolescent girls; and, as a lead classroom teacher at a therapeutic day school for children struggling with serious social-emotional and behavioral challenges. She earned a Master’s degree in Special Education from Boston University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Fairfield University.

Testimonials

"Me and my tutor... have been working on reading, writing, math, and spelling. [Learning] should be really fun. Most of the time when I read, I like to act it out . We play spelling games that are really, really fun.  They help me learn how words are spelled. For math, we do fact families... we did multiplying and dividing. If you were looking for a tutor I recommend the one that I have right now. My tutor is really kind and fun." -CRC, age 9, 3rd grade
